Dena Matar

Dena was born is Gaza in 1985 and studied Art Education at AlAqsa University where she graduated in 2007. Dena is a member of Eltiqa Gallery for Art in Gaza and currently works as a lecturer at AlAqsa University, Faculty of Fine Arts as well as a teacher of art at multiple schools.
In addition to her education, Dena has collaborated in various art projects with European artists and participated in workshops hosted by different art institutions. The artist’s artworks describe life at Gaza post-war, where her paintings are inspired by the city’s reality, its narrow streets, its houses, neighbors and the sea. Natural elements play a prominent role in her paintings where birds, trees, flowers and all other natural elements can be seen as abstract shapes in her work. Islamic art and Palestinian patterns also take roles in her art, where geometric shapes can also be found in some of her work. 
Throughout her career as an artist, Dena has held solo exhibitions where her first was held in Gaza (2008) following others in Abu Dhabi (2012), Qatar (2017),  and two more in Gaza (2017 and 2019).  Parallel to her solo exhibitions, Dena has also exhibited her work in group exhibitions including ones at The Gallery at The Walled off Hotel (Bethlehem, 2017), The Hagop Kevorkian Center (New York, 2016), the Jordanian Artists Association (Amman, 2013), Institut Français de Jérusalem (2009) as well as AM Qattan Foundation (London, 2008). Some of her collectibles can be found at AM Foundtation in Ramallah, Merchant logo Dar El-Nimer for Arts and Culture in Beirut, Abu Ghazala Collection in Jordon among other private collections.
