Essam Marouf

Egypt, 1958

Essam was born in Cairo in 1958. He studied painting at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Cairo and graduated from the Mural Painting Section in 1981. Between the years 1982 and 1985, Essam studied at Accademia di Belle Arte in Roma. He also studies at Breitner Academie in Amsterdam (2002-2003). Marouf lives and works in Cairo, Amsterdam and Milan.
Some of Essam’s selected exhibitions  include: Direktorenhaus in Berlin (2017), “Painting… this magnificent way of life” at Helga Hofman Gallery, “Muse” at Ofok Gallery, “The Sequence of Face” At Gallery Misr (2014), Mahmoud Khalil Museum with the Italian artist Omar Galliani (2011), “Human Body” at Palace of Art (2010), “Contemporary views III” at Al-Masar Gallery (2010), “Eighties” at Ebdaa Gallery (2009), “Faces” at Ofok Gallery (2009), “Gallery Salon 2” at Palace of Art (2008), Luxor International Painting Symposium (2008), “11th Cairo Biennale” and “100 Years Faculty of Fine Arts” at Palace of Art 2008.
He has also exhibited internationally at Museum Complesso del Vittoriano in Rome, Institute du Monde Arabe in Paris, PAN Amsterdam, Kunst Rai as well as several solo exhibitions in Netherlands and Dubai. Essam Marouf’s artworks are part of various private, corporate and museum collections both locally and internationally.
