Hamza Bounoua

Algeria, 1979

Hamza was born in 1979 in Algeria. In his compositions, there are movements of colours that overlap and gain space among the elements of his art. He sometimes uses mystical scripts with a thicker texture of colours to resemble a dance. Earthly colours along with black and gold which symbolize the sun are mixed with whites and blues, thus highlighting his oriental background as well as his emotional influence.
He joined the prestigious Ecole des Beaux Arts, Algiers and was inspired by the Berber, the Islamic and African Arts. Hamza’s works show letters in an abstract form as well as geometrical shapes. The shadows of figures which are included in his art pieces are combined with the flow of soft yet powerful colours.
“Everything on earth is constantly moving even if it seems to be stable but in reality, it is in autonomous, internal as well as rotational movements with Earth. These cosmic movements make everything in existence move and change in continuity. The movement is characterized by a great romance; the combination of these motions with light breaks through the material (i.e., the forms) to reveal their essence. In this case the integration (merge) of a movement is a fundamental part of me, and it contains two ideas, one is in relation with change and the other in relation with time.”
