Mahmoud Obaidi was born in 1966 in Baghdad. He is an Iraqi-Canadian artist whose work has been exhibited in both museums and galleries around the world. After leaving Iraq in 1991, Mahmoud obtained his masters in Fine Arts from the University of Guelph in Canada and completed diplomas in New Media as well as Film from Toronto and Los Angeles.
His work has been exhibited in numerous places including MoMA PS1 Art Institution, NYC; the British Museum, London; Venice Biennale; Qatar Museums Gallery, Doha; Arab Museum of Modern Art, Doha; Saatchi Gallery, London; the National Museum of Bahrain; the Institut du Monde Arabe, Paris; the National Gallery of Fine Arts, Amman; Station Museum of Contemporary Art, Texas; Cairo Biennale among many many.
Several of Mahmoud’s artworks can be found at multiple significant museums, foundations and also in the private collections of individuals. He curated more than 40 shows in different places around the world including Saatchi Gallery in London, Nabu Museum in Lebanon and Architect of Fire Station Artist in Residence in Doha.
