Wadhah Mahdi was born in Baghdad in 1974; he earned a degree from the Institute of Fine Arts in 1996 and graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in 2000. Wadhah left Iraq in 2005 but currently lives and works there. His artworks are narrative, recognizable situations or snapshots that are painted in a woolly style with a rich, warm color palette. He is a member of the Iraqi Artists Association and the Society of Plastic Iraqis.
Throughout his years as an artist, Wadhah has held two solo exhibitions at Kawaf Gallery in Aleppo (2008-2009) and participated in 30 group exhibitions both locally and internationally. Some of his group exhibitions include ones at Modern Albahie Gallery Modern Contemporary Art (Qatar, 2021), Union Des Artistes Plasticiens Tunisiens (Tunisia, 2017), Arab Gathering for Fine Art (Qatar, 2018), the International Festival of Italy (2017) along with many more in France, Lebanon, Rome, Kuwait, the US, Syria, The United Arab Emirates and Egypt. Two of Wadhah’s recent exhibitions were held at Bagdad Art Gallery and The Gallery (2021).
As an artist, Wadhah received several awards including the First Prize from the Saudi Center for Fine (2015) along with Certificates of Appreciation and Merit from different art organization around the world in The US (2013), Syria (2010), Qatar (2010), Iraq (2010) and Egypt (1999).
